We believe in supporting local farmers and commit to providing local, seasonal, and healthful food. Aspen Grove has a partnership with Dream Big Farm. This partnership provides many rich experiences beginning with our weekly share of produce. Field trips to the farm offer many learning opportunities such as direct lessons with the farmers, cleaning produce, and picking flowers, veggies and herbs. In addition, Farmer Becca is happy to engage with students on her visits to drop off food. In addition Becca teaches weekly lessons in gardening and outdoor education starting each Spring. Children delight in eating the foods from the garden well into Autumn.
Snacks and Lunch at Aspen Grove
Aspen Grove provides healthful and organic snacks whenever possible that consist of two food groups and a grain (fruit and grain, cheese and crackers, yogurt and berries, hardboiled egg and toast, fresh-baked goods which includes both food groups) and hormone-free whole cow’s milk. We provide vegetarian Community Lunch on Wednesdays that include a fruit, vegetable, grain, protein, and dairy item. Wednesday lunches are special because students, teachers, and family volunteers work together to learn about and prepare the day’s lunch. On all other weekdays students provide their own lunch from home.
